Some of life’s battles are never-ending. Early mornings, going to the gym (unless you’re our super-fit Office Manager who loooooves to exercise!), washing dishes, stuff like that; it never gets easier but we slog on with it anyway because we know these things ultimately improve our future life. Our future selves will say “Thanks, now I can NOT have a heart attack at 50!” whilst giving us past fighters a big thumbs up.
After an afternoon chat about Skyrim, fell running, testing your old iPads and being warm sleeping surfaces for Office Cat, we ended up in the age-old debate – are Apple The Best?
Global Market Smartphone Share
RIM recently admitted how tough it is to design a handset that suits everyman. The great thing about Apple is that they don’t focus on ranges of products – they’ve only released FIVE different handsets, ever! – so when a new iPhone hits the market there’s every chance they’ll have ticked each and every box on everyone’s must-have list (plus a few fun extras thrown in!) More handsets carry Android OS, but as far as usability and brand reliability go, the iPhone is unmatched on the broader market. The bottom line is that Apple computers, smartphones, tablets and accessories are reliable and consistently brilliant in a tough market.
Global Market Tablet Share
We’d die without our iPads. We’re not ashamed, it’s just that they’re really, really well-made, functional, fun and – as always – have that Apple edge that means the technology is superb for years after competitors’ devices have crashed and burned. Apple has a 57% share of the global tablet market. Oh, and by the way, that figure is DOWN from 64% in the wake of cheaper tablets like the Amazon Kindle Fire. In our opinion, there’s nothing like an iPad!
China Market Share
Samsung has a market share more than three times that of Apple – 7.5% compared to 24.3% China is a HUGE market, like bigger-than-the-US huge. So what’s Apple doing wrong? For one, Samsung smartphones are available on all three of the biggest Chinese carriers, compared to the iPhone only being available on one (and that’s the smallest one) They need to strike a deal with the biggest carrier, China Mobile, to move up the ranks. Still, with millions of unlocked iPhones finding their way into China each year, we reckon the Chinese are itching to take a bite out of the Apple pie.

*We checked with Worldwidewords.org and it seems nobody knows for sure. Something about value and abundance seems to fit best but it’s all a bit hazy on the literary evidence front.
