Nokia Announces First 41MP Smartphone Camera

Device Reviews, Electronics Industry Chatter, Tech News No Comments

Now then boys, girls and nerds, we went through the whole do-megapixels-matter thing a few weeks ago when you were last here to sell iPads and see if we buy laptops. Short answer – only with the right tech to back them up and when needed for an appropriate final use, e.g. a 12MP camera for a 5 x 8 of your dog is a waste, but for a billboard then yes, yes it can be a good thing. But let’s leave our suspicions aside for a moment.

Nokia has announced the new 808 Pureview smartphone. They’re aiming for a June 2012 release to let us all make the most of taking photos of festivals, holidays etc. (as least that’s what we’d do if we were their PR!)

We checked a bunch of reviews and most of them essentially did this face at the 41MP camera….

… but we hope Nokia can see why we’re sceptical. It’s NOT ALL ABOUT MP! But they’ve done more than just fling megapixels around. Their aim is to make the camera the most high performing on a smartphone in terms of great images in low lighting, superb zoom, easy sharing etc.

We love Nokia. You can do the whole sell my mobile thing for every Nokia out there (even the weird ones!) We’re still on the fence about whether their focus on camera-plus-smartphone rather than smartphone-with-camera will pay off. Nokia have fallen to just 7.1% of the UK smartphone market., so they need a win.

We buy laptops, smartphones and everything else on the market that’s salvageable. Our sell my mobile service means super folks like you can sell for cash and feed your smartphone habit. We’ve got the top rates for heaps of Nokias, so head over to the quote screen and see if you could sell for cash, too!
