3 Foreign Memes to Check Out Right Now

Curious Stuff No Comments

The appropriateness of memes can sometimes divide the humour of viewers. Take the example of the a recent snap of an incredibly photogenic unidentified Syrian rebel. Photographed by Associated Press photographer, Khalil Hamra, the unidentified man is – in layman’s terms – quite a hottie! The curious dichotomy of meme humour versus the sobering subject of civil war has split the web community.

Sarkozy Was There, France

The internet is a cruel and merciless mistress! France’s former PM, Nocolas Sarkozy, learned this back on November 2009 when he posted a splendid photo on Facebook of his younger self at the Berlin Wall, and on the day people began to demolish it no less! Long story short, it was a lie. He wasn’t really there until a full week later and had lied to boost his credibility. In no time memes began to pop up of Sarkozy inserted into various impossible famous situations such as the Kennedy assassination, Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ speech and the crucifixion. Sarkozy maintains the date mix-up was an honest mistake, but do we buy it?

PhotoExtreme, Russia

Originating from an online community called Encounter Urban Games, PhotoExtreme involves following a set of weird and specific plot criteria and take a photo of it. The plot is set by users of the community, then anyone can go out into the world and recreate their own version of events. Descriptions can be (and this is just off the top of our own heads) “A man with no top on and red jeans chases a woman wearing yellow willies and a boiler suit through the woods trying to offer her a basket of muffins. The woman clearly thinks the man is smelly and weird.”

All you need to participate is your digital camera, some spare time and access to the Encounter Urban Games website to upload your photo.

Preved Medved, Russia (again!)

Take this picture by actor John Lurie, give it to Russia and wait for the fantasticness that is Preved Medved!

Probably looks as good on your old iPad as on your new Samsung Galaxy, and that’s genius of the best memes! You don’t need to sell laptops or even do anything other than click here to learn about more memes!
