‘Til New Smartphone Release Do Us Part

Device Reviews, Tech News No Comments

Actual depiction of how the world looks to the sickeningly in-love.

We do quite a few of these “Best Apps for…” blogs, but it’s only because there is literally an app for everything and we couldn’t possibly report on them all, even if we lived forever in the body of a cyborg (we like to imagine ourselves as part of the Head Museum from Futurama, actually)
Since some of our team are freshly betrothed and could be heading down the aisle over the coming months, we’ve dug around in old iPads, iPhones and Android gadgets to choose our favourite three apps for weddings!

My Wedding (Free)
A really simple iPhone/Android app that basically puts tons of resources at your fingertips. There’s a great directory of businesses plus practical note taking and planning features. We buy laptops, smartphones and gadgets – you buy flowers, The Dress and a splendid honeymoon!

The Knot Wedding Dress Lookbook (Free)
According to the more wedding-y people in the M4M office, TheKnot.com is a brilliant resource for all things nuptial. Their wedding dress lookbook iPhone app has thousands of gowns and heaps of options. And let’s pretend none of the manly guys here in the office spent time on an old iPad2 browsing their favourites. Of course not.

Great as love is, it seems most of the iPad trade ins and old Blackberrys we get in don’t have much in the way of fully functioning wedding apps. Are they more of a gimmick than actual help? Our last pick is probably the most practically useful.

Wedding Budget (Free)
Does what is says on the tin, with a helpful little layout of pie charts, colour coding and deficits. You can input potential plans, payment dates – pretty much everything finance-based about the whole palaver.

Ain’t love grand!

5 Devious Little Apps for Sneaky People

Curious Stuff, Device Reviews, Tech News No Comments

When you sell iPads, smartphones and gadget-y stuff to us, we ALWAYS run top of the range data erase tools to remove 100% of your old iPad data. We could be nosey and poke around on your gadgets, but our relationship with our customers (you lovely, lovely people) is based on trust. We don’t snoop, just wipe! But for the sneaky people amongst you, there are plenty of great devious little apps for that old iPad 2, smartphone or Blackberry, here are five of our faves!

1. Slydial
Compatible with iOS, Android, RIM and Windows Mobile. Basically it means you can call straight through to someone’s answer machine, even if they’re not on a call. A sneaking rating of 5/5!

2. iGotYa!
Compatible with jailbroken phones running iOS 4.2 or later. Take sneaky photos of anyone handling your phone – mates, siblings, parents or thieves! The picture and GPS location will be sent to a personal email address.

3. Loky
Compatible with Android. Create a secure space on your smartphone to store super secret files and sensitive data. You can even filter SMS from certain contacts into the secure folder to keep your private life PRIVATE!

4. Night Recorder
Compatible with iOS. Ever wanted to know what you sound like when you sleep? Or whether your room is full of noisy ghosts? Or whether anyone sneaks down to the fridge in the middle of the night to steal biscuits? Or maybe whether your teenage daughter really DID come home at midnight? Night Recorder records when there’s sound, but stops when the sound stops. It works when your device is in Standby mode too.

5. AdiOS
Compatible with iOS. Turn the tables on apps that might be snooping through personal data on your Apple device. AdiOS scans your installed apps and red flags any lines of code that mean your address book has been copied.
